Couple of Pedal Questions
« on: 28 November 2008, 19:15 »
Ok Couple of questons.

1. Cluth Pedal
Seems fine but no force back on the pedal when foot is applied for 1st Inch then its fine.

2. Brake Pedal

Ok the Brake Pedal.
I have to press a long time sometimes nearly to the floor to get the brakes to work properly again, but when i quickly release then press again its firm. Is this the master cylinder, or an air leak in the line?

Can i get some more information on these areas from people more knowlegable than me please

Pretty normal as long as the biting point isn't on the floor. If this is a cable clutch you may be able to adjust it but frankly I would say it's fine.

That doesn't sound too good. It could well be the master cylinder but it could just be rubbish fluid. When was it last changed? It should be done every two years as it's hydroscopic (SP) so absorbs water over time and becomes much less efficient.

Im not sure when it was last done as only had the car 6 months.

bleed the brakes for a start, and see if that helps things.

i dunno if you have a cable or hydraulic clutch, but if its cable and manual adjustment remove the play by tightening it, if its an auto adjust throw it away and fit a manual adjust one, then adjust. if hydraullic i have no idea

if the brakes work after pumping the pedal its probably air in the fluid.

If it was a fluid leak you'd run low and the light would come on on the dash (Mine comes on when I corner or acclerate hard!) so I unless you're having to top it up I doubt it's a leak. More likely to be air in the fluid or the Master Cylinder. Not sure how much a new one is but I paid about £20 from GSF for one for my campervan so would have thought about the same.
