stub axle bolts need advice urgently
« on: 28 November 2008, 16:33 »
i am in the middle of changing my rear discs/pads/wheel bearings/back plates and to change the backplates i needed to take the stub axles off 7 bolts came off without too much trouble but the last one had to be removed with my irwins hence is now chewed up so what i need to know is what type of bolts do i need
i put some on from b&q (m10x25mm zinc plated avf) but left it there as not sure if they are ok
old bolts had a head size of 14mm and the b&q ones are 17mm  also with it holding the wheel and brakes onto the car i dont really want to be running the risc of losing a wheel at 60 mph
i would go to vw but i need car to be ready monday as starting new job and they will not have any stock (they never have anything in stock that i want)
all help is greatfully recieved as i only have till saturday lunch to source correct bolts

£10 quid says the originals were 10.9 - stronger than your boggo B&Q bolts.  Try a specialist supplier.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.
