A while back i posted on here complaining that my Mk1 1.8 gti cabrio's engine was hunting, badly. This afternoon i noticed that my fuel pump was making a very loud whining noise (louder than it should be). It has been doing this for a while now but today i noticed that when the fuel pump stesses the engine revs fluctuates (revs fluctuate between 300-900 rpm). I'm guessing that when the fuel pump is stressing this is causing a poor fuel delivery thus causing the fluctating idle. Is this the case as i believe the fuel pump should work continuosly regardless of engine speed therefore it must be the fuel pump causing the poor idle?

If anybody has any input to this i would be grateful as i'm about to buy a new fuel pump and don't want to waste my money.
Cheers
Tom
