Oil Light on
« on: 28 November 2008, 10:19 »
Hi all

Wondering if anyone can give me a quick bit of info.  Im going to see a mk2 golf gti 1.8 8v this afternoon, the seller has told me that the oil temperature light is on and he just thinks its a faulty sensor.  Ive never had a mk2 before but im fairly sure they dont have an oil temp light!  So im thinking its the oil light that is on.  Im going to take a new sensor with me and try it before i part any cash and was just wondering if there easy to get too? Can i get on it with a spanner and what size will i need?

many thanks in advance

This may sound daft but check the oil level, that might be the reason it's on

I've gotta rush out now so can't check the Haynes but I'm sure someone else will be along shortly.

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

if the light is on at idle then its the one on the side o the head, if its on + buzzer over 1.8-2k ish rpm its the high pressure one on the filter housing.  Cant recall off hand the size of it, just bring a big adjustible spanner with you!  Might be 24mm, just take all your big sockets
