2 More questions on my Mk2 16v
« on: 05 June 2004, 23:18 »
1. Can anyone confirm torque settings on exhaust cam sprocket? Book says 180 nm, is this correct?

2. Oil leak inside distributor! I can find an external oil seal (Large green rubber washer thing) Is there an internal seal in the distributor body? I cant work this one out. Diagram doesnt show a seal, and there is no seal on the cam! Why is that?

Any instructions would be greatly appreciated.

Cam sprocket is 80 nm. There is a oil seal inside the distributor and you will have to strip it to replace the seal, no seal on the cam so the dist drive gets lubricated.

Bosch specialist will have the seals, you need a 12.5mm one, or is the dizzy is pretty old and worn you'l get away with a 12mm seal

VW dont stock them

Get the "o" ring from VW, it is not expensive. The seal inside the distributor is 12.5x19x5 and not available from VW, if you go to a seal supplier you probably wont be able to get that size as the 12.5 is a half size. Get a 12x19x5 and as the 12 is a little tighter it makes up for the wear on the shaft ;).
