odd sounds (RE: manual post)
« on: 25 November 2008, 23:07 »
as my previous, my car went in and they replaced a few bits, but its not helped, it seemed to for awhile...

when changing down usually, like at the end of a road when your in 3rd say and then drop into second, lift the clutch it seems to clonk.. like it engages then re-engages..
also if im in 3rd say and push the gas then lift off the pedal as the engine slows it makes the sound again like its lose/clonk/re-engaging...

any ideas? i think TT had one, but not seen him around for awhile?

What bits did they change? From your description its making noises when the engine would be rocking, which would point to a knackered mount or worn bush.. possibly in the torque arm.

To be honest we could sit here and list possibilities all day, without actually seeing/feeling it its just a guessing game. Did you fit the torque arm insert yourself, and would you be comfortable putting it back to standard just as a temporary test?

Give The_Doc an email. He said recently that although he doesn't come on here often, that if people email him he would be happy to help!

Although, as topher says its hard to assess a fault without seeing/feeling it.

If the Neuspeed torque mount insert went in fully and the bolt correctly torqued (iirc 74ftlb) then it's unlikely to be cause of this noise.
If you have the opportunity, you should check to make sure the mount itself isn't broken at the bushing as this has been reported in the vortex forums.

Have a look at this post, http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showpost.php?p=740787&postcount=7

When you installed your nuespeed insert you had to remove then reinstall the oem bolt and that bolt goes through the hole on the right of the pic. Can I also suggest that if you didn't replace your oem bolt when you installed the insert  that you take this opportunity to do so now as well as it's a stretch bolt that is meant for single use only plus you can exclude the remote possibility that the bolt has been bent.
