weber weakness
« on: 04 June 2004, 18:46 »
Hi all, wonder if any of you can help me with a minor problem!
Does anyone know what the correct jet sizes are for a Weber 32/34 dmtl?
I have replaced my peirsberg junk box, and fitted the weber conversion to my 1.8 gl, for some strange reason it is very weak on primary carburation.
Hence me wanting to know what the correct jetting should be...
Many thanks, any info will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers folks.

Was the carb you have fitted specific for the vehicle?, I ask as they usually come with the correct jets. Is there another fault on the engine, why did you change the carb?.
Steve.

Problem solved, There was a split in the servo hose, right at the back, out of sight. It was only opening up under load, hence the perfect running on my drive and dying on a test drive.

it was the vacuum pipe from inlet manifold to servo.
Thought it had solved the problem, but no, arf a mile down the road it died.
Then it came to me in a dream of all things.
With the car starting life as a 1.3, the non return valve in the servo line didn't have the small vacuum take offs as on the 1.8s.
So i had connected the vacuum advance for dizzy to the vac pipe on the back of the weber, on thinking in my dream, I realised that this take off was only working on second choke, resulting in no advance for ignition at low revs.
Off to my shed of parts and found a none return valve with the small take offs on, fitted it to servo line, ran advance pipe to this and the 1 on back of carb to the side of air cleaner.
Hey presto, it spins the wheels in 2nd and goes like stink.
We live and learn yet again..
Your eratic idle is due to weakness as you say, may just want mixture adjusting...
Hope you have some joy with yours m8, check all the vac hoses for any leaks first,  ;)

She is finaly sorted, loving it, have a few more things to play with in fytyre. poss a 28/36 dcoe mod.
Tried it on my dads 1.3 mk1 years back (4 branch, gas flowed etc). Went like stink, especially when the return spring jumped off. pulling 8200 at the time.... Thank god it was my old fella driving at the time.
Will want jetting to suit the 1.8 though..
Will keep posting myb findings.
Will post carb on site if i decide to sell, will inc matched inlet manifold if i do.
Cheers.
