Minor update.......been back to the dealer and said my car + 3k. They're gonna think about it. We're now 2.5k adrift so a deal around 4k to change would be great - if not then it wasn't meant to be. The ED30 is still a great car after all and I haven't owned it long enough yet to truely appreciate it - so I wouldn't be too gutted.

I haven't mentioned the new VAT rate yet to the dealer - was hoping to use that as the clincher :)

It does if sold through a business, not if it's a private sale.

Good luck ... sounds like you're nearly there

You could try and find a similar deal at a  nearby rival VW dealer and play one off against the other if they start to stall

I think and its purely biased probably but your mad buying an R32 at the moment, road tax going up to £400 release of the mk6's with a special R on the way i reckon the mk5 will deperiate even more and when you tire of it it will be worth even less, for me some of you are seeing this as an investment of sorts, if your and ed30 owner and thinking of swapping to an R32 i would say no.

I wouldn't swop my Ed30 for one either.. but i'll have one of each     As for depreciation, all cars do that and I don't think anyone sees it as an investment - if they do then they're crazy.  I planning to run mine until the oil runs out
