Mk4 Polo as a daily?
« on: 23 November 2008, 21:45 »
I have been looking the 1.0 mk4 polo. It is insurance group 3 and apparently does 47mpg!

Has anyone had one of these or driven one, because at 89.9p a litre and 47mpg, and insurance group 3 it would make a very good daily.

Is there any down side to these?

At the moment i use my mmk3 8v, which is group 14 insurance and does 35mpg if im lucky, and drive 40mins each way to work each day!

Help would be great

I've bought my girlfriend a 1.0 mk4 Polo.  It's ridiculously slow, about 17 seconds to 60?  you won't get a top speed higher than 90 down a hill either.  Steering feels disconnected from the road.  I generally feel unsafe in the care, quick scared to be honest.

BUT, it's good on fuel if you stick below 40mph.  Above 40mph it eats fuel as quickly as my 1.8T

well thats that out of the window!

My mk3 8v makes me feel safe, and its never let me down in the past year and a bit, but i pay £158 a month to insure, and when u only get 35mpg and i do 40mins to work, and 40mins back, its not practical.

Any other ideas?

Well i want something that is cheap to run, so it does good mpg, and wont mind doing the miles i do to work and back each day, is not pricey to insure, and not expensive to buy. As its just a daily.

Plan to a daily, then next year get another gti when insurance drops, as i have 0ncb atm, even though i am 20 and been drivin 2 years.

Get like a 1.4 TDI.

My mate has a pug 206 1.4 HDI and its cheap to insure and £35 tax for the year! Also gets 600 miles from a tank driving to braintree every day  He did pay £2k for the car though which probably defeats the object :undecided:

My next door neighbour had one these. Biggest complaint was lack of power steering, then lack of performance.

I think they did a 1.9 diesel in these which should be quite cheap to run.

How some can complain of lack of performance from a 1.4 HDI is beyond me, what the hell was they expecting :D
