I owned a clio 197 for year and a half and it's up for sale now.
Fed up with bad build quality, squeaks and rattles, bad mpg and constantly having to downshift to overtake someone.Handled brilliantly, looks gorgeous and that are the only good points

So I stumble upon a used GTI with 50.000 miles on it, leather, navigation, xenons and all the other options.Manual gearbox

The car is red with the standard 17'' wheels.
The interior is perfect, no scratches, almost no wear on the leather, engine starts nicely, quiet, exhaust sounds lovely.
 a few questions, hope I get the answers to all of them 

1. Is 50k miles a lot ? It had one owner and I don't know how it was driven as it was imported.

2. Is the standard exhaust supposed to have a nice pop & burble when I lot go off the throttle even at low revS?  Cause I love it and my clio never did that..sounded much more mechanical.

3. I'm going to take it to a friend who is a vw mechanic, what should he pay attention to when checking the car.What are the things that mostly go wrong in the gti?

4. As we have no vw tuning specialist in my country, I can only get one of those generic remaps (like the superchips) that's supposed to give it 240ish bhp? Am I really going to get that much ? And will it be noticable, for example when racing a stock gti?

5. 95RON unleaded is the only fuel I can get here.Will it go well with a remap (ie will there be knocking, pinking or whatever it's called)

6. Do you know of any on-line vw tuning shop that ships parts internationaly? Cause I'd really like some exhaust, carbonio, carbon bits etc and none of those are available here.

English is not my first language and I'm no mechanical expert so I hope u understand everything.

1. How old's the car? They say you should count 10k for every year so 50k sounds a lot.
2. Yes, I think.
3. Pass
4. Depends on the map and on your car.
5. What's the question? Car runs better on anything above 98 RON, so with 95 RON you'll notice poorer mileage and less power. Not sure how much though.

Everyone tells me tfsi engines are bulletproof so is 50k really much?

50k miles on a GTI is nothing. Mine had 56k on the clock when I bought it and it's only just turned 3 years old - it really does drive like new.  If anything, it's just about run in at 50k.

depends what year it is?

yeah, i watched a video about how they made the noise go up towards the driver so he can hear the engien more

if he is a vw mechanic he should know or get access to common faults

the gti can run on 95 however i was told to avoid it and use 98/99 by my vw dealer

going to see and drive the gti tommorow and talk to the owner about swaping my 197 for it.

anyone have any experience with DIGITUNING maps?
A guy here does them and there is a cheaper map that apparently gives 45 bhp and one bit more expensive - 58 bhp.

Can 58 bhp be achieved with just a remap?

And also, should I get a forge DV? the one that has 3 "mods" ?
this one



so a remap, forge dv, carbonio intake and a cat-back exhaust (APR maybe) .. what't the max bhp/torque can I expect?

Fed up with squeaks and rattles in Clio?
Do not be sure that by switching to GTI you'll escape squeaks/rattles. You may, or if you are unlucky (like me) you'll have rattles in the dash, rattles from back seat, occasional rattle from the door or two.

On the bright side, GTI is a nice drive.
Also, about pop and burble, that sounds right. I was also surprised when I heard my E30 do these things when a technician was revving it while I was standing outside. Very nice sound, I agree. 

Regarding 95/98 RON. ABT tune GTI to 240, but they say it produces 200 when you put 95 in it.

That looks like a blow-off valve, not like the diverter valve. I got Forge DV for E30, it is gathering dust in basement as I never had it put in.

Personally, would never go with non-VAG-specialist tuner (i.e. I'd only go with REVO, ABT, MTM, Oettinger, B&B Automobiltechnik) for a remap.
