REVO'd my Edition 30 today
« on: 22 November 2008, 18:55 »
Finally got round to getting my car remapped today by Jon at VAGtech.

All I can say really is WOW.  It has competely transformed the car and it is soooo quick now.  There is a power surge around 3,000rpm and it pulls really well in every gear.  Particularly noticeable was the torque in 6th gear even at 80mph on the motorway.  Overtaking is even more effortless than it was before and I even pulled away (in 6th gear) from a Scooby that was trying to overtake me this afternoon ( he was a bit surprised I think!).

On the local "bridge test" I got 110 (kph  :smug:) compared with 100kph as a standard car and 95kph in my old modified Mk 4 R32.

The power delivery is not as smooth as it was before the remap as it has quite an aggressive surge of power at 3,000rpm.  However, it is just as easy to pootle along with a smoother, more gradual acceleration but you can just feel that the car wants to go.  I could feel that even before I got to the end of the driveway at VAGtech when I went out on the road test with Jon.

Hooked up to VAG-COM we did a MAF test which showed 226g/sec which divided by 0.8 equals 282bhp.  We did the same test on the car in standard form the other night and got 190g/sec which equals 237.5bhp.  The same test in my R32 proved to be fairly accurate compared to my RR results.  The torque shown on VAG-COM was 390Nm which is 287 lb/ft.  I know these figures aren't precisely accurate but it's a good before & after comparison.

The only bad thing about it is that the brakes feel really inadequate now for the amount of power.  I know that several people with Ed30s have commented on how poor they think the brakes are but I thought they were fine on the standard car.  Now though I'm not so sure.

I was going to go for a full Milltek and REVO Stage 2 but my other half has been made redundant recently so I couldn't justify the expense until things settle down on the job front.

Many thanks to Jon and the lads at VAGtech today for putting the map on the car

Are you still running on 97-RON?

Anyway glad to hear it went well. How much did it cost?

I'm toying with the idea of Revo 2 for sometime next year, when it's insurance renewal time. Hate having to downshift or wait ages for acceleration on the motorway.

Another happy Revo customer I see then..  Glad to hear it and it's good isn't it..?
Would of thought you'll be looking at more than 286bhp though , especially when the map has settled. What settings have you gone with?
Hope your fella gets sorted with a job soon, so you can feel the full potential of Stage 2 with the Milltek..

Yeh, so far so good!  Had an 80 ish mile trip home plus a bit of a detour so hopefully it will have learnt the map by now?  I'm not convinced that it's going to be much, if anything, over 280bhp though going on previous RR results at JKM.

Settings are 9, 7 and 4 (I think!) but I can't remember which was which   I haven't got the Select switch either.

I'm hoping he gets a job soon too, although he's in the motor trade which has been affected really badly recently and he's struggling to find something!

No, Tesco 99 RON has been available around here for a couple of weeks now so I'm trying that and have had about 3 tankfuls so far.  Did put £21.00 worth of BP Ultimate in today though as I didn't have enough to get there and back.

Stock. I'm toying with the idea of just going to Stage 2 in one go rather than doing stage 1, save and wait for a bit and then go to Stage 2. I swear, every time I save some money, I suddenly have the urge to spend it straight away.

Nah mate, it's alright. I'm sticking it all into another account that I can never remember the PIN for so I won't be tempted.
