RNS-510 is the model number. plays DVD's and MP3's out of the box.

Will need to add your own bluetooth mobile phone thingy.

I got mine fitted mate (bought from ebay too). Only took the gent 30mins or so. Best thing ever... inc 30gb HD too which is great and saves me alot of weight.

Was a thread up before about functionality and fitting previously... may be worth a look

Fitting it yourself is a doddle. Only thing is you need VAGCOM or someone with VAGCOM as you generate an airbag fault when you unplug it to get it all in and it needs clearing. Took me about 25 minutes to fit my new headunit and it wasnt that hard. Plenty of how to guides online. All depends on how much they want to fit it. If its like a tenner then just get them to do it.

How much did you pay for yours Aland? Dont really want to spend £950 like the ones on ebay

I spoke to a bloke at VW dealer when I signed the papers for my new car and he said he can get them cheap, so will see how much he can do it for and let everyone know

make sure it's the touch screen one that plays DVD and has a hard disk in it. There is an older one called the MFD2 which doesn't have a hard disk and doesn't play DVD's

Google MFD2 and RNS-510 to ensure you know which one looks like. There has been a case on here where the dealer tried to tell the customer that the MFD2 is the RNS-510. Not sure what happened in the end though.

Oh no no no. Im far to wise to spend that much money on a is bascialy a fancy satnav. I bought myself a single din converter and put an Apline HU in (only diffrence will be instead of me screwing in the single din unit, you would screw in your new double din nav thingy) with an amp and two 8'' subs for the boot. Upgraded speakers on santas list :)

Might be a bit "chavy" for some of you but the sound is suberb (even without the uprated speakers as your sending more Watts to the speakers, tbh I have no idea what the standard ones are rated at) and all this for more than HALF the price of what that unit costs. I think all in with HU amp and subs was about *scracthes head and tries to remember* was about £250 - £300 (cant really rememeber but you get the jist  :embarassed: )

I know that unit looks a millions times nice but Im not that fussed on what it looks like, the sound is what I wanted:
