4k.. damn!.. thats pricey for a mk2.. esp an 8v!

nice colour though!

esp. considering that i paid 4500 for my mk3 16v with leather/air-con.. etc etc
Used to have a '97 MK3 16v GTI 3dr in 'Black Magic'... now have a '55 Civic Type-S...

I think ?3k is more of a realistic price. But if your looking to get one standard and easily put in to show'n'shine, maybe its worth it?

Anyway, I would'nt pay it. Nice car though. :)

Hmmm pasadena blue not bad but much prefer bright blue. It's hard to tell from those pics of pasadena blue whether it's metallic, in some it looks like it is in others it doesn't. What does everybody else think?
I think you're all right on the price though, if it was a 16v I'd be snapping it up maybe even at 4k but for an 8v I do think 3k would have to be the top limit. Also seems a shame to buy a car with that little mileage when I'm gonna put 18k a year on it and soon bring it up to normal mileage.

I think you've just made a very good point there, if you're putting above average miles on it, there's no point in paying premium money for a low mileage motor if its value is going to be deteriorated in a couple of years by your mileage.

Besides, personally speaking, I have never seen the fascination of a low mileage car. I understand fully that a low mileage car stands a better chance of being in better condition, simply because it has spent less time driving on the roads etc etc, but mechanically there's no guarantee that its going to be mechanically perfect, or any better than its high mileage counterparts.

My experience with low mileage cars is, whilst paint and interior have been very good, mechanically they have proven to be more troublesome than a higher mileage counterpart. Infrequent and low mileage journeys have caused engine wear that renders the premium paid a false logic.

As an example, a car that covers five miles a day will not reach a temperature high enough to rid the exhaust system of its condensation. Therefore, the exhaust will constantly have water sitting in it rotting it - this is not a problem with a car that is used regularly and long enough to burn off the condensation. Just an example.

I think it would be great to have a real low mileage car, but to be used as a concours/show car, not as a daily driver.

Save the premium, and find yourself a clean example with reasonable mileage, they do exist!

i always look for low mileage cars but s11eps has just totally crushed my beliefs in them being a better buy. some good points made  ;)

i think its too much money - as soon as you drive the car its going to depreciate rapidly, it needs a bubblewrap show home in my opinion  :)

i agress on the low mileage thing...

Its never bothered me if the car is in good nick... You can tell quite easily if its mechanically sound...

Another common low mileage car problem is rusty brake lines

Some very interesting views there and I have to agree, things can definately deteriorate through lack of use especially things like braking systems. Also I suppose things will deteriorate due to age whether they are used or not. Think I'll keep looking and leave that one for the concours enthusiast.
Drove past a nice looking mk2 for sale this morning so popped back for a look at lunchtime. Very nice motor on a h plate in black with 89k on the clock. Mint bodywork (and I'm fussy when it comes to this) and a very nice late interior (grey with red fleck), great condition bbs etc. Alas it was an 8v  :( why does everything seem to be an 8v when you're looking for a 16???

True indeed! Sound advice from s11eps.

Recently I saw an ad for golf VR6, 2 owners, FSH, 78k for ?2850.
Problem is additional cost involved in getting car over to the UK.

?3995 for 8V is greedy too much.
