Koni FSDs questions
« on: 19 November 2008, 22:10 »
After all this recent talk about coilovers I've decided to get some coilovers before some new alloys. Koni FSDs from Awesome are the most affordable for me. I have a few questions though.
1. Is professional installation needed or would any garage do?
2. There's this notice on the product page:
Quote from: Awesome
Notes: Front: for original struts Ø 55 mm only
Since my car is not a GTI, would I need some GTI struts or are the GTI's struts the same as the struts across the range?
3. Is 30mm too low for daily driving over speedbumps with a front splitter?
Thanks

Koni FSDs are just shocks - coilovers are different I think.   :undecided:  But they are good.  Not sure if you can use them with the standard springs on a non-GTI though.  May have to get springs too - Eibach go perfectly with them

I think you should talk to Awesome again if your car is not a gti as the fsd come in 50 and 55mm strut diameter.
You won't want to get the wrong ones.

What springs are you pairing up the fsds with will determine the drop  in suspension height? The eibach pros drop the car by 20-30mm iirc.

OH I thought they were a coilover set. Guess I can't afford coilovers at all then . Eibach springs it is.
So the combo will be Koni FSDs and some 30mm Eibach springs. Would that set up work alright?

Yup, the fsds + eibach pro kit springs make a great combination if you don't need to alter the height settings on the car.

In the US you can find them packaged together at some stores because they compliment one another.

KoniFSD's would be an excellent shock on your car, Jimp - They provide a very good balance between comfort and 'support'. It'll feel much more 'planted', especially if you fit aftermarket anti-roll bars as well.

I've already caught the visual modding bug, maybe this is the first sign of the performance modding bug!
Just need to twincharge and remap the 1.4

Actually does anybody know about the AP coilovers that Awesome stock? Only £365 with VAT and they offer a 50mm strut version. Is the quality any good though?
