MkII small-bumper model in NE?
« on: 02 June 2004, 20:10 »
Hi all,

A while back, I bought a set of mudflaps for my brother's big-bumper MkII GTI and despite specifically asking about them being for the big-bumper model, they don't seem to fit. Could someone in the Newcastle area with a small-bumper model help me confirm I've been sold the wrong parts, please?

All I need is to meet up with you (and your car!) so that I can see whether the parts fit your smaller bumpers. If you're in the Newcastle area (or not too far from there), just get in touch. You'd be doing me a big favour.

Thanks,

Mal.

P.S. My brother's daros on these forums. Hope that doesn't put me in a bad light.... ;)

I may be wrong, who knows?!! I think they're the same. I had small bumpers, and therefore obviously"small" flaps. I now have big bumpers and had no probs with flaps! The flaps go on the other side to the bumper as well! Two things i can think of, you may have arch trims, making it different to non arch trims???? They can a right b!tch to fit back on!! Might be one of those, might not.

Hope that helps.

Its not the bumpers you have to worry about its your arches.  If you get mudflaps designed to fit to bare arches they wont fit on any Golf with arch trims.

Plus you have to worry about wether the arches you have match the bumpers, some people just bolt big bumpers on and leave the old arches, and I believe the small bumper arch trims are a different shape to the big bumper versions.

Plus some Golfs with big bumpers didn't have arch trims I think, possibly some CL/GL models?

Thats what i said!! All pre 90 spec cars except the driver and GTi have no arch trims. The big bumpers fit on fine, just with a gap.

Hmmm... cheers for the help, everyone. I suspect my bro's Golf has the arch trims - I take it it's just a question of whether you've got bare metal or plastic surrounds? Maybe if I posted a pic of the car, it'd be easier to confirm? I'll see what I can do... :)

And for lowgolf, I'm in Newcastle upon Tyne. And you?

Right, here's the best pic I had hanging around...

Anyone any the wiser? :) If not, I'll check with my brother on the stuff you mentioned, but to be honest, I suspect he's as clueless as me. ;)

Bah, figured as much when you asked which Newcastle - most people up here forget about the under-Lyme version (me, for instance!). Cheers anyway.

Well you have a set of genuine big bumper arch trims there, note the smaller (and more useless ;)) rubbing strips along the doors.

Send the flaps back obviously they have sent the wrong ones since you specifically asked for big bumper mud flaps.
