Urgently need help!
« on: 18 November 2008, 13:14 »
As some of you may know I have my E30 remapped by Oettinger to 305hp/410Nm. It is just the map, no mechanical mods.

Two weeks ago I crashed into a van, and my front was destroyed, and radiator leaked out. A VW service station fixed everything, replacing the bumper, the hood, some parts from the radiator, and whatelse.
After that I tested the car, and obviously the map was deleted.
I went to Oettinger yesterday, and they did a remap again, the boss showed me an automatic email that they get when remap is done, and it read OK. I also asked them to put a sport filter in the original air box, which they have done (it is a non-oiled filter).
The problem is, the car does not feel 305hp strong. It does not have the airliner acceleration from 3000rpm that I felt before the crash. It feels like a 230hp car, despite the OK readout of the map burn.

I asked the boss of Oettinger shop, who did the remap, what should I do.
He told me to go to a VW service and ask them what the problem is. Specifically, he wrote the following:

"...they should check charge and the memory read error.
Perhaps this is also a boost pressure hose not properly mounted. There can be several causes."

So I wonder what I should do now?   :undecided:
Any suggestions what the problem could be?
I mean, if pressure hose is wrongly mounted, should not I be losing pressure even on 230hp car?
Can they measure charge without rolling road? What is memory read error?

I am concerned, don't know what to do. I have enough problems with interior rattling like unoiled cart, and now this...

THanks guys/girls in advance for help!

If they replaced the radiator then it's possible that they didn't fully tighten the intercooler hoses (the IC is attached to the radiator by screws) thereby causing a boost leak.

If you have access to a vag-com then log block 115 to see if requested and actual boost match up.

Just went to VW dealership that repaired my car. They connected it to a computer (is that Vag Com?). Everything is normal, they said. Car runs better than original, they said. But it does not have the acceleration after 3000rpm that I used to have before the accident when I had Oettinger map. Anyway, tomorrow I am talking to Oettinger again.

On the other note, when the VW guy started the car and prodded the gas pedal while standing on the parking, when he released it the exhaust made very nice crackling sound (I was standing behind the car).  Very nice sound from that exhaust!

I need to fix the problem somehow.

I would get Oettinger to completely remove their map, then take it for a good test run...after that you should notice a marked decrease in performance....then, take it back to Oettinger and get them to re-install the software.  Perhaps your settings were tweaked in some way the last time by the original installer? and now they have reloaded the stock Oettinger settings dont perform like what they used to? anyway, just a thought...Good Luck, let us know how you get on.

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

I checked what parts they replaced after accident. There are some parts of IC that have been replaced. I hope they just did not connect the hoses tight enough or something. I REALLY hope that nothing is wrong with the turbo or manifold (RedRobin suggested a possible crack in either of them).

When I got the car from VW after repairs it ran as a 230hp car, or at least it felt like that (but certainly not like 300hp car).

I wonder what the correct way to proceed is. I think I need VW to delete the Oettinger map and then put it on RR and see the output. RR will cost me 150 quid.  OR I should go to VW and ask them to check the IC first, without deleting Oettinger map. Obviously, VW do not know what 300hp feels like.

I would try to get your Oettinger tuner to sort this out and not VW.

....Sorry! I wasn't trying to worry you but just pointing it out as a possibility.

....I think it would be better for oettinger to delete their map, but I may be wrong. Don't let your VW dealer charge you for a new ECU!

....Definitely check out the connections first.

Talked to Oettinger today. Next Monday morning they wait for me.  :nerd:
I hope it gets solved. I was thinking hard about suspension mods, and even Stage 2 mode (even though my Golf is on finance).

Thanks a lot, guys!
RR, thanks for your help. I will print the thread and also your link, and take'em with me to Oettinger next Monday.
