Seat Ibiza valver 2.0
« on: 18 November 2008, 12:10 »
Been thinking about getting something a bit quicker than my 8v mk3, as it slow as hell! Limited budget, so was thinking of either getting a mk2 valver or a mk3 vr6. Then I realised seat did a 2.0 16v abf Ibiza. Has anybody ever had one of these/been in one? Obviously it'll be quicker than a mk3 abf cos its lighter, but what else should I know about them?
Seen decent ones going around with c 70k on the clock under a grand - sounds like a bargain. What's the build quality like?

Thanks

It's a Golf2 chassis with an ABF in the front.

At the age of car you're looking at it doesn't really matter what the build quality's like - it's more about what rust does it have on it now?

Go for it - top bargain and knocks the Golf3 into a cocked hat any day of the week.

They are bloody excellent motors mate. Just check the usual places for rust (rear arches and sills) and accident damage. Go like the clappers though, and although it is marginally quicker than a MK3 with the ABF it is also quite a lot slower than a MK2 that has one

thought so! Trouble finding a decent mk2 with an abf in it for a low price tho!

parkers reckons 0-60 in 7.6 secs - as opposed to 8.0 for golf mk3 - a fair bit quicker! not much off the VR according to that website

The seat ibiza is actually based on the vw polo, with a slightly longer wheelbase.

The business end is G2 architecture, the bit behind the firewall is Polo.

they have one issue in common with the mk4 polo.
the pedal box can crack and is a pain to fix by all accounts.
other than that , i'd have one , in fact if there were any about when i was looking for a new car i'd have bought one.

Can you explain that a bit more?
I've tried one of these cars some years ago, it was a great little motor, but i decided against as the build quality was a bit naff.
The main dealer said it was effectively a rebadged polo, this and other sources on the net have confirmed this.

I'll take it back - it's actually on a Golf3 front end (hence don't touch it with a bargepole ).  It's the Toledo that's G2.

It's all VAG parts bin anyhow.

I'll have a poke round Beavis's new £200 Ibiza tonight.  There's rather more than just a re-badge to differentiate it to the Polo though.

Interesting stuff, i didn't know they used a golf front end, i thought all the chassis was polo.
I suppose all skoda, seat cars borrow lots of the different bits
Why don't you like golf mk3's?
