Wing Mirror Glitch
« on: 17 November 2008, 15:40 »
My passenger side wing mirror is playing up a bit!

when I use the electronic folding mirrors to bring them in, fine, no problems. but sometimes when i want them to fold back out again the left one doesn't fold back properley and kind of gets stuck and doesn't 'click' into place. i then have to repeat the process a couple of times for it to work properley.

anyone else had this problem?
anone know what the problem is, how to fix it?!

The problem is, that we have changed the indicators to the INPRO smoked ones! The dealer will surely turn round to us and say "we think you did it!"

I was the one that actually discovered this fault with his mirrors..... I pushed the wing mirror forward so that I could get to the screw holding the puddle light (this is the correct way to get to the screw, so I wasn't forcing it), and when we folded the mirror back in it just wouldn't set back into its original position. Thankfully, after a little play with the electric folding mirrors, it clicked back into place. Seeing as this has never happened on my wing mirrors (ive replaced the puddle light bulbs numerous times), i would suspect that his mirror is faulty.

However....explaining all that to an incompetent dealer may prove to be difficult!!!!

true, but i may just see what they say! don't want a duff mirror. did it this afternoon and wouldn't fold out properley! plus they may not even notice they're different!

if they give me any hassle ill say that i haven't touched the folding mechanism and that I noticed it before i did the indicators but hadn't noticed it again until now. hence se la vie!

maybe next time im over ill pop in and won't fold them again until then! nobody wants a flappy mirror!

....

Randomly 'disobeying' driver instructions on folding the wing mirrors has been a common problem for at least 3 years! My dealer simply changed the electric motor and problem got solved.

In that case shove the standard ones back on, take to dealer for a new motor and refit them after

That's exactly what I'd do.

Oh but they are a lot of hassle, especially with the housing clips!

We'll see what Mr Pirelli wants to do!

I had this problem for which the dealer update the software.

This seemed to work for a few months but now it's back intermittently with VCDS finding the same error as before. I just "play" with the switch and after one or two goes both mirror usually unfold.

yeah i get this with the passenger side mirror but its pretty intermittent (seems to happen more on colder mornings).... i wasn't sure whether it would be worth the hassle taking it in for them to just call me back 5 hours later saying they couldn't find a fault
