changing ignition barrel??

hi people, i am doing a mk2 dash conversion into my mk1 cab inc the stalk etc,
i have the mk2 ignition barrel but cant figure out how to get the other ignition barrel off, can anyone help me at all?
the mk2 barrel is from a 1990 gti 16v and my mk1 is a 1990 clipper cab (dunno if this makes any difference watsoever! lol)
any help would be greatly appreciated,

Well explain what you have done and what stage you are at trying to get it off, iirc you have to have the key in and turned to position one to remove? But im sure someone on here has done one before!
