steering / tracking..
« on: 02 June 2004, 14:43 »
Hi,

First time i have used this... I want to find out if anyonelse is having issues with tracking and steering geometry on their mk4, steering wheel is down one side by and inch and it pulls to the left all the time.. I have had the tracking done and number of time but i can never get it straight as a die like a new car.. I do track days and it effects the way the car feels when going through a right hander at speed especially entry / exit. .. My local  vw specialist told me that this is a common problem in the mk4 and that cars have had new subframes etc to fix it.. is this true. Has anyone got any tips to fix it....  :) :)

Cheers.

Whats the general handling like?
Could be a defective shock absorber.

It handles find, doesn't pull left or right on heavy braking either..  have taken it too sainsbury's car park and watched the circles get smaller and smaller. I try changing the wheels around just after i got new tyres on it too see if it was tyre/wheel circumference causing the pulling left, but it changed nothing..

have found out what the problem was... i got the Tracking professionally aligned with lasers, but it didn't cure the problem. A mate has a SEAT Leon cupra which had the same problem, the SEAT garage check a suspension joint which was proved to be worn / loose.  When fixed the steering was true as a die.  Mines in the garage as we speak being sorted... So anyonelse out there that is suffering with pain in the ass steering issues - get the suspension checked out.   I will find out the part name and number that needs replacing and post for you.   :D
