New Car Next Year
« on: 16 November 2008, 16:34 »
Next year I get made redundant and get quite a nice payoff, so will have about £6k to spend on a new motor. It needs to be diesel, have 4 or 5 doors and preferably have a leather interior along with other nice things, and relatively low insurance. A hatchback is not essential. The good thing is prices are hopefully gonna bottom out by the time I am in a position to buy so I may be able to get something pretty good by then.

I have come up with these possibles:

Bora TDi 130 SE Highline or Sport (should get a 54 or 05 plate for that at the mo) is my first choice.

Golf Tdi 130, A3 TDi 5-door or A4 Tdi of some sorts could be possibles as well

I don't want an Octavia (think they look horrid) and am not impressed by the Seat Leon as it's too plasticky inside. Want to stay VAG if possible as I've been very impressed in 4 yrs of GTi ownership. Can't be modified too much (I will consider chipping ) as the missus may be learning to drive in it.

Any suggestions will be greatfully received

Ta v much, Mr B

Handle like a lump hammer.  Don't do it.

Bora wins for value.

Unless you paticularly like the Audi A3/4, I would go with Golf/Bora/Passat as theres not much between them except better interiors in the Audi's, but EVERYTHING will cost that little bit more.

How about...

Have to admit I'm leaning towards the Bora as you seem to get a lot for the price. We shall see - by that time I may be able to get a 57-plate Mk5 GTi
