Where did you get the arches done? Were you happy with the service and quality of workmanship?

Are replica alloys really that bad?

Is there any solid evidence that rims made in the east or where ever are poor quality?

from my own experience i personally would not buy replica rims again as i had some 18 x 8 on my GTI for 4months and the ride was horrid and i noticed my 17s had a faster pick up..
then when i had them removed at my local garage the guy commented on how much bad quality they were

The tires were splitting in the middle and a new tire would not balance properly and the rim wasnt even buckled he had another colleague come and have a look he weighed them and also tried to balance them he thinks they were made with mixed alloy or something and advised me not to refit them..

so anyway after wasting a total of £500 i purchased some audi s3 alloys made by bbs/speedline and i could feel the difference straight away.. the pick up wasnt as slow and also i lifted both alloys up and the bbs seemed a lot lighter

i think you may have seen this vid before, kinda cool..

What replicas did you have?   Komenda seems happy with his BBS LMs... and Phillip from PW Motorsport said that for the price they weren't so bad.  Of course, that doesn't negate your experience which is why I still have doubts about reps.  Apparently, you can get BBS LMs from Japan that would fit the Mk5, but Phillip told me that they cost a bomb esp given that the pound has halved in value against the Yen since last year.   He didn't quote a figure but from the way he was speaking it sounded like something ridiculous circa £5k or something

i had the monza2 reps..

purchased from ebay, at the time there was so many available.. some from like £200 a set to some at £500.. both the same style design but price range varies?
im guessing this is because of quality? however i paid £450 and had problems..

anyway im sure loads of ppl have replicas with no problems.. i commute to work every day at motorway speeds plus were i live there are many uneven roads and speed bumps so i need some good quality rims and tires i can have some confidence in as i see rims and tires being one of the most important part of the car however illyun i wouldnt spend 5k on them even if they are lms
