WHERE CAN I GET AN OIL FILTER HOUSING FOR MY 85 KJET?
« on: 14 November 2008, 00:05 »
hi folks,

i've got a badly cracked oil filter housing. anyone know where i can get a new one online? or are any of you currently breaking any cars that have one i could use?

also, for those who have replaced one, any idea of the time required to do it?.. i'd be getting someone to fit it so want to know how much i'm gonna be spending.

cheers, dan

any 1.6+ 8v one will do, but ideally you want a GTI one as it has extra takeoff on it for the mfa oil temp sensor plus the longer threaded bar for the oil cooler.  If you havent done it already I'd put a new oil cooler on there at the same time!
I did have a GTI filter housing in my garage somewhere, just a case of finding it!

yeah just spoke to my local volkswagen branch after a dub enthusiast friend said they could be mail dealer parts... there's the oil cooler which is the square bit directly above the filter and he was on about the round bit on top of it, the 'bracket'? not sure if i need one or both. on top of the cooler there's that flat round part, then on top of that there's an electrical terminal. thing is the oil's pissing out of a crack between the top of the cooler and the flat round part on top of it. to look at it doesn't look like oil would be able to get out of there, but it is, and its plentiful.

any help on this one would be much appreciated, vw have quoted me silly prices and that's before labour. not very flush at the mo but she needs to get back on the road.

cheers

sorry folks, because i got the terminology wrong i couldn't find the bits. just spoke to gsf and asked for an 'oil cooler' which they have in stock for £32+VAT. i think this should do the trick!

thanks for your replies though

yeah sounds like the seal between the cooler and housing may have gone, it happens :)
dont forget to order a new seal for it, i cant recal if the gsf coolers come with them or not?
