Couple of questions
« on: 13 November 2008, 23:30 »
Guys
I used to post on here when I first got my R32, 1 year ago, still love it.

The questions are:

1) I don't have touch screen Sat Nav but want it, is it possible to change to the standard one and how much should it cost?

2) Will R32 become a collector's item if they stop building it?

3) Why is the sky blue [could never work that out].

P.S Glad to see more R32 people on here.......damn I love speed........

If the answers to these questions have already been discussed, excuse me, I'm lazy and bereft of time

1 - Yes its basically a straight swap for the standard unit. I fitted an RNS 510 to my R32 last night - took me about 45 mins as it was the first time I had ever taken the dash apart. Could do it now in 20 mins now I know what I am doing (thanks to the doc for the picture guide he posted a while back on how to do it). RNS 510 is amazing, does everything you could want. I am just investigating now how easy or hard it is to swap out the hard drive in it for a bigger one. A few pop up on ebay for under 1k. Have a search. A point to note, if you buy one make sure it comes with the aerial adaptor. The golf has 2 feeds - 1AM and 1FM. The RCD 300 has two seperate inputs, the RNS only has one so make sure you get the 2 to 1 adaptor. Otherwise you are left with only FM or AM to connect. Also, if you have a CD Changer let me know as there is a pin you need to swap in the wiring loom. Its dead easy so dont panic on it.

2 - Perhaps a collectors item for Golf GTI / R lovers, certainly always a desirable car. I guess in a few years time only those who know what they are and understand the .:R line history will appreciate it as a collectors item.

3 - Deep Blue Pearl R32s made the sky that colour

1) about a grand off ebay or £1400 from a UK supplier

2) they've already stopped making it.. just shifting leftover stock.. but lets hope so to help these residuals!

3) because the air in the atmosphere scatters more of the light at the end of the spectrum with shorter wavelengths.. those are the blue ones :nerd:

Known as Rayleigh scattering because its was first explained by Lord Rayleigh in a mathematical equation (one of the few advantages of having a degree in Physics and access to google )

the reason the sky is blue is due to the wavelength of the light diffracting into the earth's atmosphere and gases absorbing other wavelengths.

edit
ah ghey too slow.
