Crap throttle response
« on: 12 November 2008, 19:27 »
My 16V is very sluggish and the throttle response is absolutely rubbish. I have set the timing and checked for vacume leaks. Please help... On the secret MFA it shows the car is idling 960-1060. Please help or direct me to a specialist in London. Thanks

Describe the engine symptoms in more detail e.g. is it popping, or backfiring. Does it pick up at high revs etc.

Have you checked out Rub Johnny's tuning guide on here? How about a basic home service? When was the air filter last changed? Start with the basics, on these cars it's usually something easy / obvious thats at fault.

My first checks, assuming your timing is spot on and you really have checked for air leaks, would be...

> CO2 Setting
> Leads
> Plugs
> Check that the acceleator pedal fully opens the throttle body
> Unplug the 5th injector to see if thats affecting the fuel/air ratio
> Fueling issue e.g. blocked filter or stale fuel
> The rest of the ignition system e.g. coil
> Clean ISV
> Try unplugging the over-run cutoff valve

Good luck!!

theres no setup mode on kr, assuming thats what it is and not an emmissions model PL or 9a or something?
the 16v guide isnt mine its shamelessly stolen from clubgti, i might write up a new one for a 16v later on now I have one of my own!

The car has had a service in August, replacing the Air Filter, Fuel Filter, Spark Plugs, Oil & Filter, New ISV. The other problem that has started after flushing the coolant and refilling it, is now and then the temperature light flashes for a second or two, but the car is not overheating at all and the coolant level is ok too. ERGHHH.... When the car is warm and between changing gears the car occasionally cuts out when the revs drop, and whilst sitting in traffic the car starts hunting.... I am so sick of these petty problems and just want to get it sorted.

Good thing is that the fuel economy is quite good, full tank give about 300miles combined.

I am not sure what to do... I love the car to bits and just wanted it running 100%. Rubjonny has helped alot in the past and have used his set up guide to the the timing, but i did it without disconnecting the red cable coming from the coil, as i could not locate it...
