Remap and DV Fitting and a bit more... :o)
« on: 11 November 2008, 11:03 »
I'm getting a bit embarrassed because I keep getting asked when I'm getting my car remapped - and I've been banging on about getting one but never get round to it. Instead, I'm a Mk2 GTI whore and can't keep away from them        - just bought a mint 74k mile big bumper 8v Mk2 GTI for £1800 after gagging for one for the past 12 months as I sold my Oak Green 16v a year ago.  It got me thinking what that £1800 could have done for my neglected E30  Hurdy asked me a couple of days ago and I gave a perfectly reasonable reason why I am waiting until later this month, but I can't be asked to wait any more so if you guys can point me in the right direction, I'll get it done this Saturday and booked the car in for a service on Friday. I am currently in Birmingham as my wife had a cesarean operation 2 weeks ago and is recovering at the in-laws - it was a baby boy by the way.

So getting to the point of this post....

Can anyone recommend a garage that could do the job on a Saturday within a 140 mile radius of Birmingham - obviously the closer the better. The place would have to have a rolling road too. Although I initially wanted to go for an Oettinger remap drawn to Oettinger’s long record, I’m a bit suspicious that its just a marketing exercise and that the Oettinger map is really the APR map rebranded.   So I am going to opt for a Revo remap and DV install (unless anyone can find compelling reasons to opt for another vendor) as many people here have it without any issues (apart from Hurdy   ) and because Revo have a much larger base in the UK than anyone else.

Just some other details, my car is a DSG and I want a Stage 1 remap with a Select or Select Plus switch (still not decided which one).  Also, are all garages the same price or can I get the software cheaper elsewhere?  I know about the Revo groupbuy on this board but think I just missed it   I could have saved £££'s if I had done it at GTI International but then no rolling road - I want the tuner to make sure the remap is calibrated correctly using a rolling road rather than just flash, bang and here you go.

Thanks Rhyso... I have looked there and might give them a call and ask about the rolling road.  I am considering JKM in Portsmouth - or Awesome in Manchester, as they have received good press on this forum.

yep you can't fault either of those outfits either

I've found JKM very helpful with my enquiries - just a shame they're so bloody far away!!

would have thought Revo HQ would have an RR for developement and testing   :undecided:

Hi illyun, congrats on the new arrival of your son! Take a look at this thread and then maybe speak with greenouse as to where he got his Bluefin from. http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=93884.80
His results speak for themselves and the RR he used is to see the results is in Brum too.

No Thanks

TT would never forgive me after his repeated warnings about Bluefin  :lipsrsealed: (most of which I don't understand from a technical point of view  :embarassed:)

Hi Illyun, good to hear you are finally starting down the modding route

Even better is the news of a bouncing baby boy. Hope both littlun and SWMBO are doing well

I'd have to agree about going down to JKM as they do sound like a very good set-up. They would probably do the car on Saturday, but I'd get in touch sooner rather than later if you haven't already sourced the Forge DV

It would be good to see what the car does on the RR both before and after it's been done

Good luck
