Are you now out of warranty? I just got mine replaced free a day before the warranty ran out...chance the stealer, talk nice to their warranty person its a known issue and is progressive...its something that would have started when the car was still within its 3 year warranty period....VW are miserly though for out of warranty claims...but you can but try..

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

This is a direct quote from a post by TT, "the orginal "flat" rear core was part no: 3C5 827 469 C ULM.  This was dropped end of Sept 2007, and superceeded by 3C5 827 469 D ULM. The rear core assembly is around £76 plus VAT."

I noticed my badge had gone the same way a week after the warranty expired....stealer said "no way"....so rang VW and they told the stealer to change it for goodwill...

On a 05 car the new badge isnt as good quality as the old one and it doesn't quite sit as flush as the old one did...it sticks out more like the front badge on the grill...didn't really bother me...
