Help with a steering issue....
« on: 10 November 2008, 08:30 »
Hi all,

I just wanted to check on an issue I am having with my R32. When driving with the steering wheel at the central/neutral position the car does not drive straight. In order to drive straight i have to turn the wheel to the left about 2 or 3 degrees. This is not right.

Before I got the R back off my brother 4 brand new tyres were fitted the week before. He didnt notice the issue but didnt drive the car that much on the new tyres.  I am assuming that my issue is simply that the wheels need aligned? I just wanted to check before I go and pay to get an alignment done. Or is there anything else it could be? The car was never hit or bumped to have caused it.

Prolly just wheel alignment, a simple check costing about £20 will highlight if its out, are your tyres fitted with the direction arrows pointing in the direction of travel (no idea if this would contribute to anything actually...but still they are on the tyres for a reason).

Just watch who you get to align your wheels as kwik fit muppets etc generally dont give a toss for your nice alloys and the alignment may damage your rims, so agree up front any damage with them before you let them loose.

Alternatively go for 4 wheel alignment somewhere using a VW beissbarth (will cost you about £150 ish).....

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

I'd personally go for the 4 wheel alignment to prevent any future issues - got to be cheaper than replacing at least 2 tyres again

Yep, I have her booked in for 4pm today, 4 Wheel alignment for 35 quid here in Belfast, thought that was quite a good price.
