The stock Ed 30 brakes are good - just not good enough for a tuned ED30.

Power is no good without control.

Oh, and I'm a pic whore!!

LOL

The alloys are some old 5 spokes I've had under the house a while (err...two years!) and were on my GTTDI. I thought I'd try them on the ED30 to see what the BBK would look like with rims that showed them off. Only thing is that the alloys are quite heavy (30lb) and so popped them back under the house again.

Hello,

I'm not a huge fan of the brakes either. I find they dont inspire any confidence when making progress. When you put things into perspective its a 1400kg car thats saloon weight (give or take 100kg or so) the evos/Imprezzas/S4's of this world don't make do with single pot calipers. I'm pretty sure the usual pad and grooved disc swap wont be enough. I reckon a new caliper setup will do the trick.

Hurdy; did you find your brakes more balanced with the Tarox caliper? i.e the servo grab was not as prominent any more, it had more caliper feel and bite ? Does that make any sense?

The brakes are in another league to the standard set up, much better than the R32 set-up too. The bite and feel of the brakes is excellent and there is a lot more progressiveness to them. They aren't simply on/off affairs. The balance between the front and rears isn't altered much although I can tell the difference over standard and IMO the balance is better than standard.

Some aftermarket brakes can feel quite "grabby" as you say and also you tend to have to put up with a certain amount of brake squeal, but not with the TAROX's

with those discs i think u'll be needing 19" rims minimum.

Stock brakes are okay if you wanna slow down from say 80mph but any faster and they work but sometimes you wanna stick your foot through the floor to slow the car down a bit quicker.

The R32 set up (345mm rotors) fit quite easily under the 18" Monza's. With only 5.5mm more radius, they may fit just as easy. It is more likely to be the size of the calipers that stops them fitting for both diameter and spoke clearance on the front face. The only way to be sure would be to pre-fit for size, especially if you are having custom brackets.
