8v Gti engine into a Clipper?
« on: 03 November 2008, 21:35 »
Hi guys, just like some ideas as i'm in a state of indecisiveness!  i've had my mk2 gti 8v G reg for just over a year now, had the engine rebuilt with a fast road cam, gearbox rebuilt, s/steel manifold and exhaust.  It's great to drive but the paint lets it down.  After getting a few quotes for a full respray i decided not to go ahead with it and spent the cash on a really clean Mk1 clipper.  I love the mk1 and want to keep it long term although it's none too impressive power wise.  Now i'm thinking would it be worth transferring the engine, gearbox etc from the mk2 into it, or better off selling the mk2 as a whole and using the cash to go towards a bigger engine if i'm gonna go to the trouble of an engine change, although my funds aren't limitless!  I'd just like any advice on whether it would be worth it or too much trouble?  Cheers

Sorry, it's injection, but one of the very late ones (K reg) engine code JH, fitted with a Cat.  Would uprgading the cam be an option also?

Cool, thanks for your help.  Would i need to keep the Cat to stay legal?  Or is it considered part of the engine rather than the car?

nah you should be able to bin it, technically the mot year laws are applied to the engine, but ipretty much any mot place will see it as a MK1 and test it like one!
