Total closure alarm
« on: 29 May 2004, 19:09 »
I've got a bog standard Mk3 8vGTI, which did have a VW total closure alarm fitted.

I fused the cigarette lighter circuit by putting in a faulty accessory plug.  I replaced the fuse, and reset the electric windows (cos I disconnected the battery).

BUT- now, when I use the remote, the windows won't go back up, and the sunroof won't close.

Any ideas?

I have disconnected my battery before and it has not affected my full closure.  best to find out who sells the make of your alarm and then go to them

Do (did?) the windows still work with the drivers door lock (unlock the door with the key and hold in the unlocked position and the windows should open. Conversly it should close the windows and 'roof in the locked position)

Or...

Can you not reset the alarm yourself?

I recently had to replace my battery after the old one died. This caused the alarm to go off everytime I tried to connect the new battery so I used the little key to switch the alarm off.

I then connected the battery, unlocked all the doors manually, switch the alarm back on and used the fob to lock the car. The doors locked and the lights flashed 3 extra times. Since then the total closure works fine.

Worth a try!

Thanks for the advice - the key does open and shut everything, and I tried resetting it, but it still won't shut from the remote.

The courtesy light flickers when I press the fob button, and that's when the windows stop closing.

Guess I'll be making an alarm company richer.

B@@ger.
