cronking noise
« on: 28 May 2004, 10:53 »
hmmm sounds like a driveshaft or the steering column but ive just had them both replaced in the last two months.  Hmmmm the bloody noise started on the way back from the garage just after I had a rear wheel bearing replaced, ive checked but its not the bearing, anyone got any ideas?  Please
thx
regards
Marco

Might be worth checking your ball joints at the bottom of the front suspension struts. My car started making a horrible clonking sound last week which sounded like a driveshaft or gearbox problem. It turned out the balancing weight had dropped off one of the front wheels and I just happened to have a worn ball joint on that side. The vibration from the wheel resulted in a horrible clonking at about 60-70mph. Bunged my spare set of wheels on and problem solved (well I've still got to replace the ball joint but it's a lot quieter in the meantime).

Oh forgot to add my noise started on the same day it had been in the garage and they had taken that wheel off! The weight was obviously loose and they didn't notice it fall off. Definately check all your wheels for recently lost weights.
