I must admit that Windrush VW Maidenhead have been very good so far (1 year of ownership). Just built a brand new servicing premises which is quite impressive.

Although, if anyone has had a bad experience with them I would be intrigued to hear!

I sometimes contemplate doing my own servicing - save a lot of money, increase my mechanical knowledge and not risk getting my car damaged by some spotty 17yr old apprentice.

But, I sacrifice a full service history blah blah blah blah blah......

Got to agree with RR's comments, it does not matter what marque you buy, it's the individual dealers that make the difference.
In my experience of VW ownership in the last 6 years, every dealer within a 40 mile radius is poor, and they certainly do not appreicate good customer service or relationships, and due to this, once the GTI goes, its our last VW, because even complaints to VW customer service only get the 'well we do not control each garage, they are franchises', at that point you are on your own, and I had 7 months of hell getting a steering fault fixed last year and it soured the view of VW that I have.
In the last 20 years I have also owned BM's continously, and again some dealers are rubbish too, but overall my experience has been a lot more positive, and for this reason I stick with the brand, but it really comes down to finding a good dealer that you have faith in and building a relationship with them, so that they totally understand what you expect of them and what you will accept in terms of service.
For what are high value items, it should not be like this, but unfortunately it appears to be the norm throughout the auto industry.

Sorry to hear about these bad experiences!
I have just had our new Ed 30 into our local dealer to replace the black panel on the drivers door under warranty as it was dented. I always ask the girls on reception to confirm the car is unmarked or damaged on arrival and they always come out and make sure you are happy when collecting. I try and wait for the car so it is in their car park for as little time as possible to avoid other customers damaging it........(the usual reason for damage in this tight car park) We have two Golfs at present and can only speak very highly of the service we receive

I always wait with my car when getting it serviced, don't trust any mechanic no matter how good my relationship is with the dealer! I always make sure I watch what the mechanic is doing and make my present felt. I know this is not possible in all cases but from my past experiences I will never leave my car at the dealer unless I have to!

That really isn't good enough Steve!

I've 'yet' to have a bad experience with my dealer but I don't expect to as there is a much bigger picture when it comes to dealing with me..............

It's a real shame, but the truth is EVERY main dealer represented by most manufacturer's have a wobble here and there! It's just unfortunate this wobble was with your car!

To update, i sent an email to the Manager last night which took me an hour to write!! so you can imagine what i put in it!. Sent 3 photos of the damage so he could see etc.

Gota result, the Manager called My wife today at home whilst i was at work voicing his concern at my recent experiance and wants to meet me in person on monday to discuss and where to take it from etc. , perhaps free lub service ,new alloy, and proper paint chip repair/respray isnt a write off just yet.

Will let ya'll know from My monday morning visit

This sort of service is a to common these days at main dealers...I can't fault the dealer who I was using for both my Mk5 and also my wifes Eos.Both cars were bought from them new and all warranty work carried out by them(plenty of it as well).

I always asked for the same Tech to do any work on both cars as the guy was my mates apprentice for 4 years and he rated the lad very highly.I couldn't fault them at all but,VW when I queried the amount of repetitive claims we were having due to parts failing didn't even bother to answer!!!!

I am very friendly with the dealerships Brand Manager and he arranged for me to meet with VW's regional rep at the dealership.Even after that VW thought replacing windscreens, various sensors on the Mk5 and 3 sets of roof seals on the Eos in 12 months acceptable(Don't think so Mr VW).

After just over a year of Mk5 ownership and 18 months with the Eos,I gave up and went back to BMW's...Again my local dealer is pretty much on the ball and always try to help out(bit pricey'r than the VW dealers though).

I'm sure you'll get your problems sorted out eventually but,I do agree mistakes happen, even though they shouldn't...I reckon when they do happen it's how the situation gets resolved that makes the difference.Good luck in getting your issues sorted out Phil.
