* Designed and built by VW to enter and win rallies, but it never really got going in motorsport.
* Different body shell (Flared arches, higher boot floor. IIRC the only bits it shares with a standard MKII is the bonnet, doors and bootlid)
* Square headlights (NOT the same as jetta ones)
* 4 Wheel drive
* 1.8 g60 supercharged 8v engine
* Left hand drive, never officially imported into the UK

My fave one:

They did a G60 in the 16v but it's very rare, and not a Rallye.

Ah the G60 Limited. The ultimate MKII Golf!

almost Nick.. doors are reinforced and bonnet has an extra hook to hold it down nearer the hinge side.. and 70 (or 72/73? don't remember) were sold as official UK models (SE) but still LHD.

Some tarts even fit Rallye lights to ropey old 16V chassis, too:

Or how about 'Westmoreland' US spec headlights (Cheers Beavis  :wink:)

Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Back on Topic.

No mention of sills being done or the condition of the bodywork / shell in general.

hmmm.

... it's turned into a fashion show for poofters.

correct, just the usual "condition is good for the age" which is pretty much chocolate teapot territory.

Personally, I am not a fan of the Rallye. I chose my G60 over a Rallye going for pretty much the same money. Too 'add on boxy' for my taste. Looks like the old late eighties style box body kits people used to fit to 3 series Beamers and trash the look of them. Two things going for them though. Rarity value and classic status as they were hormoligated for Rally sport. And for me to call a car a classic is saying something. Too many people with 40 year old wrecks have the cheek to call their cars classics! (eg, a Hillman Minx or a Ford Cortina are NOT  classics. They're just old!)
