i bought my first gti in june
i have to say here that i have never had a better ride in my live she feels so good
lowered and on matt black alloys
she is a beautifull red 1994 mk3 2 litre 16valve
but i was only going to run this till 2009 and swap for a 1.8t version
however an mot has just cost me £850 not nice i know so my thoughts are i will keep my currant car for a while but what can i do ?????
i dont think i can do an engine remap or can i ?
i do not really know about modding but we all have to start somewhere and here is where i start me and my gti i can spend on it(eventually dont forget 850 for an mot) and i will post pics very soon  but what should i do and what should i buy what will give me the best benefits? i will listen to all advice you can give me boys(and girls but i doubt it)

ABF can be tuned up nicely at cost. And yeah what the hell was wrong with your car to cost 850 at MOT!

Come on guys, it's a Golf3 - it will have been rained on a few times and started to dissolve, thus needed a lot of welding to make it road-worthy.

A tubular exhaust manifold will unleash a few more BHP from your ABF - we ran one up on a dyno with a 4-2-1 manifold and scored 173bhp on standard management.  If you really want to up the ante you'd need £5-850 of headwork, cams and some throttlebodies.  This should take you pretty close to 200bhp - the magic 100bhp per litre.

Depending upon what you're using the car for, i.e. if it's not a daily driver, the biggest gains you'll see in performance will be jettisoning some of the unnecessary lard that a Golf3 carries around.  Dumping 100kg out of the car will transform how it drives, but will make it less easy to live with.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

unfortunately you can't chip the ABF engine (k jet injection)
but if you want a decent upgrade in power you could scrap the K jet system in favour of megasquirt. this would be a logical path to go down if you are thinking of throttle bodies?

I was thinking that too.
The ABF is the electronically managed 16v from the Mk3. The 16v engine from the Mk2 is K-jet injection.

Hasn't Len got a chip/remap on his Mk3 16v?
