What clocks in Mk2 ABF??!

Hi all,

Im hoping to fit an ABF engine into my 1991 8v, Which i believe i can plug the mk3 engine loom straight in (with a couple of mods),

Does this mean my original clocks work?

What about the revcounter? do i need to change it for a Mk2 16v one?

You should be able to use a late 16v clock set up.

Yeah as I have had 16v clocks in my 8v's. You need to make sure they are the same as your current clocks though. So if your 8v ones are single plug you need single plug 16v ones. If yours are twin plug then you need twin plug 16v ones.

MK2 clocks will not work with the ABF ecu rev counter signal, you have 2 choices:
1. open up the MK3 coil and run a wire to one of the terminals to the fusebox
2. retain the MK2 coil

Option 2 is the method I recommend, not only does it save messing about it also means you can bin the crappy MK3 coil.  To make it work you need to keep all the loom from the MK2 coil and TCI-H unit to the fusebox/battery.  You get the MK3 loom and chop off the coil plug, bin off the black and the brown wires, then splice the green/red wire to pin 6 of the TCI-H unit.  On your old 8v loom pin 6 would run to the MK2 ECU

did i read right on the forum somewhere it said that when you did one of these conversions, you modified the rear engine mount to lower it?! have you got anymore info on how you did this?

With regards to modifying the mk2 and mk3 engine looms, would it be possible for me to send you both looms and have you modify them for me?! Any ideas what you would charge?!

the only reason we had to lower it was becasue the miltec 4 branch we fitted was hard up on the tunnel, if you fit a std MK2 16v mani n downpipe it fits perfectly, only issue is you need to weld on a lambda bung but that can be done once engine is in and running so you can get it in the right spot.

I could do the loom modification for you, as for charges I'm not sure really anyone have any inputs on what is fair?

I'll probably be fitting a 4 branch at the same time, but apart from that the install will be standard.

Would definately be interested in peoples opinion on a price, seems like it may be popular as there's alot of people talking about it lately?!

assuming i get both looms and they're in good nick i should be able to knock one out in a day, then when I've finised doing that the loom conversion should be quite quick too 

edit: whole mount modification thing depends on the manifold itself, some fit some dont!  other options are to use the oem 8v mount & bracket, flip the bit that bolts to subframe round and drill a new hole lower.  Once you see one you'll see what I mean!

Hopefully will be selling my 2ltr 8v this week, then i'll be on the hunt for an early mk3 16v, i assume its easier without the immobiliser?!
