£290 for a 2 inch widening for all 4 wheels though, I think that sounds good.

This has been posted before.
Use the search function kids.

I'm sure someone will bring up the whole debate again about how safe they are or if they are even legal.

They used to be called banded steel's and I thought they were illegal but if they've used them on Chop shop you would think they were legal  :undecided:

We now only supply wide steel wheels banded, any loose paint/rust will be cleaned off and the welds coated in rubber paint to protect them from any damp.

We no longer grind the lips smooth, shot blast the wheels or seal them in etch primer.

That's interesting - this means they're not providing a finished item, which means they don't need to buy third party liability insurance to cover them in the event of one of their products failing whilst in use.

Further to someone on Retro-rides asking VOSA a question about banded steels they got this response:

There are no specific regulations in the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986, as amended (C&U) relating to the type of work you propose.
Regulation 100 of C&U does require that all parts fitted to a vehicle are not likely to cause a danger to the user of the vehicle or other road users. I have attached a copy of Regulation 100.
Additionally, you will need to ensure that the wheels do not protrude from the wheel arches, or that modifications are made to the bodywork of the vehicle to ensure that the wheels do not protrude.

Yours sincerely

erm, have you seen the size spacers they use on there wheels, they must be at least 6" wide. i wouldnt be using them as a guarantee of product safety!

I have met the guys from wide-wheels at various local meets in the last few years and they run the wheels themselves (and so do other people from the local clubs) and nobody has ever mentioned any issue regarding quality and strength....
I kinda want some 16" new beetle banded steels!!
