Welcome

You can pickup a MK4 1.8T for that now, but then how much would the insurance be?

Do you like the newer models or the older models?

If you like the older models but want more grunt, with £5k you've got lot's of options

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

Welcome.

As said, £5k is a decent budget for a Golf. Even if you take £1k off for insurance, you've still got enough for a Mk4 Golf GTI.
