Thinking about buying a GT TDi

Hi folks

Currently driving a 2002 Celica VVTi but cost of running it has become too high
Started a new job and I'm racking up over 300 miles a week (Can't stand public transport)

Pretty much decided on a 130 GT TDi to replace it
Hopefully performance won't be down too much and I'll save a decent bit of cash

Any advice for buying one?? What to look out for/avoid etc
My cousin is a mechanic for VW so I'm sorted for making sure it's mechanically sound
Reckon i'll get 4-4.5K for my car so looking at getting one of a similar age with average miles
Seems to be plenty about with FSH etc

Looking forward to having some mid-range torque

I usually keep my veedubs around a year or so then move onto another one (allways Gti), untill i bought my 3Dr black GTTDI 150Bhp, i bought the 02 plate car at a year old and still have it, economy has been great and reliabilty has been excellent. i can definetly recomend parting with your cash for a GT TDI.with the poor weather i get in scotland i would also stay away from Black unless you have time every couple of days to wash and dry it.

bout £40 i think - not sure - my dad deals with my insurance and just asks me for an amount each year

lucky boy daddy sorting u out then ! im still  struggling to buuy my car... i wanna get a 130 or 150 oil burner... but there are bit dearer to buy .. i might end up with a 1.8t just so i can own one

yeah its useful - my dad has been selling insurance for 40 years so knows where to get the best deals

Do want it in black or dark blue but like I said I do high mileage so might reconsider

Heard the 130/150 have a higher rated clutch so it would be able to cope

Is it true mapping it can increase performance AND economy?
What kind of increase on mpg we talking (book says it'll do comb 53mpg)

standard clutch can take about 270-280lbs ft torque but it is expensive to replace with an uprated one - mine cost approx £900!

remap can improve economy though with the extra power its very rare you'll see it  but the beauty is the extra power won't affect economy unles you have a very heavy right foot

I still plan to get my 150 remapped but i have got a lead foot  I have had mine 2.5 years and i doubt i will eva sell it !!
