Rolling road reports 133bhp on my 16v!!!
« on: 25 May 2004, 20:11 »
 ;D

Yep, 133bhp. New ECU fitted.

Goes like an Essex girl after 10 alcopops. On and on the revs go on.

Have to admit, having read some of the 8v versus 16v discussions I'm swaying towards 16v. It is a dream to drive! :D

Good to hear you have had it fixed, what was the fault with the ecu?.
Steve.

It cost just short of 500 GBP comprising 82 for renovating the fuel metering head, 120 for the new ECU and the rest in labour.

This may sound a lot, but the difference in the performance is phenomenal. To think I have been driving this car around for 4 years and only just realised what the performance actually is on these 16v versions!

The guy did basically nothing to the rest of the setup apart from the airflow meter and the new/refurbished components as stated above. The ECU would not give a reading at certain RPM i.e. 1200 when the battery light came on and caused the car to stall.

Learnt a fair bit from it though - my advice would be that if you are experiencing anything that resembles what the original symptoms of my post were - even the ever so common stalling at junctions - borrow an ECU from someone!! Only takes a couple of unscrews & 5 mins to plug in. Then clean out the throttle body. All that was wrong with the fuel meter was a few pinholes which were soon filled in.

I know there can be loads of other reasons why the car won't perform but these diagnostics guys have no choice but to take the logical route and check out these "other reasons". Costly, but reassuring to know the other umpteen parts of the car are OK and at last I can recommend a worthy garage to carry on using. ;)

did they do the warm up regulator modification??

Stealth racing did it to mine and got 147bhp from it.
Stock engine apart from a pipercross panel filter and sebring back box.
123k on the engine aswell.

As far as I'm aware nothing was done to the warm-up.

Everything is as is on the power train - just slightly lower springs and the full S/S exhaust.

Sounds like yours will absolutely fly!!

Oh dear. Well it was good while it lasted!!!

Driving at the weekend. All of a sudden lost power. Did not cut out though. For the last 3 months or so though, take your feet off all the pedals and allow the car to slow down until the engine revs around 1200rpm. Then dip the clutch....THE STALLING IS BACK!!!

ISV looks fine but left it to soak in some degreaser. The idling is awful. Absolutely nothing has been tampered with.

Back to basics.....back to the techies. Please not another big bill!!

Anyone looking for a H plate black 5 door 16v with 126k on the clock? Full service history and I mean full. All stamps, all receipts even the original purchase one from 1990. All in that lovely grey vinyl handbook. This may be the final straw!!  :undecided:
