could you imagine being stuck with a high end mazda or civic right now? D'Oh!
Nope. I'd rather brake my back and chew my own testicles before owning a mazda or honda.
What did Clarkson call Audi drivers?
You would be much better buying a £16,000 GTI AND a really nice motorhome for the cost of an expensive A4.
You really are a tw@t, arn't you? Don't you know that it is actually Audi who develop many of the components and technologies which then get used by Volkswagen (along with Å koda and Seat). If it wern't for Audi, VW would not have FSI or curtain airbags, which we have in our current GTIs, nor would any VWs have four wheel drive. If it wern't for Audi, the upcoming Mk6 GTI and the new Rocco would not have the chain driven cam technology, nor variable exhaust valve timing, nor adaptive suspension. Audi are a serious partner in the Volkswagen Group stable, and for anyone to "blanket" dis Audi is seriously deluded.
And on to your second comment, how the fcuk would either of your suggestions manage 170mph on the German A-bahns, or whip the ar$es of most other "sports cars" on the road, such as most Porsches (or "wannabes" such as MX5s, RX8s, MGTFs, Honda S2000s) - whilst on the same trip being able to carry five people in extreme comfort and safety, and all their luggage in that massive boot?
Yes, a GTI may be able to do some of those things, even in standard form. But compared to any Audi A4, the boot on the Golf is noticeably smaller (so I'd be severly limited on the amount of wine to bring home

). To get a standard GTI (and not an Ed30) to reach 170mph in a reliable and refined manner would take some seriously expensive and major modifications - and you still would not have that glorious V8 soundtrack.
