My new GTI Edition 30 is fast approaching 1000 miles on the clock and I am starting to feel the engine loosening. I have read some mixed opinions on how to run in the engine, but out of caution have decided to restrict my revs to 3000 RPM across all gears, with the occasional guilty blast

.
What I ask next is what sort of driving treatment should I give my engine when driving?
I am very eager to push it a little, i.e. up to say 4.5-5k RPM in 3rd gear, but i'm not too sure what if any damage I will do. Being an engineer I fully understand the engine is a designed to be used, but I don't really want to cause any unnecessary wear and tear if I can avoid it. My aim is to have a little fun on some country back roads, but out of pure care for my new pride and joy, don't want to 'hurt' it. Surly as long as I ensure the engine is warm, temp up to 90 and all other checks such as oil and water levels, then I cannot break the thing? Any guidelines will be much appreciated.
