it depends what you want, mechanical bits are easy to find, trim isnt so easy. if you go for a cab  the seals are now a nightmare to source!

a lot of  mk1 owners don't venture much further than vwgolfmk1.org so parts can usually be sourced from there...

there is crazy quiff's mk1 emporium who has been great for getting parts to me and going out of his way when i've needed them yesterday lol, especially at mot time!

there are also many dudes around here who can help. :D

i just ask teh questions as and when i need to.. mk1's are rarely going to be a cheap project :D

prob wrong age for car is all, around 83 the metal brackets on floorpan swapped sides so if you get wrong seats the forward/back handle doesnt work.  If you look underneath at the front you'll see the bracket the slider handle needs to sit in, if you push this across with your finger you'll be able to slide the seat.  If you flip em upside down have a look at the handle, its not that hard to swap the handle over if they arne not height adjust seats.  Also apparently on some seats you can unbolt the belt buckle and swap to the other leg, not looked into this myself.  Last option is to drill off the bracket on the floorpan and swap em over to the other side!
