Well after having my car vandalised  I decided to pull my finger out and sort out security and get a few mods on that had been lying around the house for months !!

I love the mk5 Gti but ever since owning a mk5 r32 i can't help but prefer the rear end of it.

The 2 tailpipes just look so good i knew i had to get the R32 exhaust on my Gti. The R32 looks very balanced and purposeful with the twin pipes.

After seeing Jonny28 and Rob mk5's GTi's i defiantly knew it was the way forward. I planned this mod for my mk5 red GTi but then never did it.

Anywho after reading Robins thread of what was needed to do this, i got all the part numbers ( thanks Robin  ) and started ringing round to get the parts.

Everything was going well till i rang Awesome and they informed me that the R32 style Milltek does not fit on the Edition 30, to say i was gutted was an understatement, as my vision of a perfect Gti involved a r32 style backbox.

Anyhow spoke to my bud J Thorne( of Thorney motorsport , top guys :) ) who informed me that i should ring Phil Millington or Charlie Orpen @ Milltek to confirm that the part did not fit and whether they could fabricate me one.

Phoned up Phil and he said i could put a R32 back box on but had to get a centre pipe. At that point i was rejoicing and was not bothered what it cost. It had to be done and he also offered to fit the parts at there fabrication factory !

 His quote including full catback with fitting was cheaper than a few places advertise just the backbox !!! RESULT !!

Phil Millington knows his products so well , he can tell you the part numbers !!!! Not only that he sorted everything out very quickly and politely  !

So now i got my r32 bumper sprayed and fitted by a very good mate (thanks Paresh !) !!! and at the same time he colour coded my wing mirrors ( matt black ) and the front splitter and VW badges (gloss black !)

- new style bin liner wing mirror cover !

-car looks naked without the front splitter !

cut a story short woke up today and Drove to Milltek in Derby . Got there, recieved great hospitality and a engineer came out Kev and the general manager Dave Marshall.

Kev talked to me about what was going to happen and how long he would take , then Dave came and had a chat about my car and his old mk5 Gti and cars and modding in general.

To say the people at Milltek are good is an understatement, in my view they are one of the best if not the best aftermarket exhaust manufacturer about, there understanding, knowledge and general helpfulness would put other so called "giants" to bed.

I've had a a lot of aftermarket exhausts before, Supersprint (CSL), Orbisuod(trophy), Gruppe M(m3), Eisenmann(m5) ( most of them all LTW racing, non resonated and loud as duck ! ) , ive spent over £1800 on just a backbox (gruppe M) and never even got offered fitting or a check after to see everything was okay ! :embarassed:

Milltek did a superb job, took me for a spin to check it was what i wanted and then checked it afterwards to !  The Non resonated exhaust is perfect, in every way, finish and engineering !

Milltek truely are friendly and professional company, they are straight to the point and take care of the customer which i think is an important part of buying a product, also helps their products are some of the best !

The noise is immense, none of that raspy nonsense or bassy drone that pops your head and  sounds OEM under part throttle but under full load sounds like a beast, also the engine feels like its revving freely and the economy is about the same or better !!! !

Honeslty Milltek is the only way to go ifor an exhaust !

Right now i've fallen for my GTi Ed30 all over again, i think it looks the puppies private parts right now !

and i still have one or two mods left to put on ( i might spray the mirror covers gloss black also, the matt looks a bit wierd ), then aesthetically i think im finished !!!

I would just like to thank, Redrobin(Robin) and 182 Blue (shaun) for their help in getting part numbers and how to go about getting the bumper off.
Also everyone at Milltek, espeically Kev, Dave Marshall and Phil Millington, would recommend them to everyone
Also my mate Paresh, he spent a few late nights doing my painting !
Finally the people on this forum some of you have really inspirational cars and your friendly attitudes has helped me feel at home , hope to meet some of you top blokes/girls soon !

Im off for a drive !!!

Raj

Nice one, Raj!!

I've had dealings with Milltek since 2005 and they've been making performance exhausts for about 30 years. I was up there in Derby myself last week and with them at the weekend at Castle Combe - They care and they are enthusiasts. I'm not at all surprised to read your enthusiasm about them.

I expect you already know that your new exhaust may take some miles to coke up and mature and they sometimes go through a 'droney' stage at about 3,200 revs during that period. But Milltek move with the times and are constantly improving them.

Enjoy!! :afro: [As one door closes, another opens]

Big improvement :afro:

I've always used Milltek for my cars, and found them very easy to talk to about technical and custom matters, they don't sound like they have better things to do or try to rush you off the phone like many other big manufacturers.
I'll be knocking on their door once the revised system is available for my car

  • too low for british roads!
that does look sweet, pardon my ignorance but is there a benefit horse power wise going for the r32 milltek or is it just about the look?

Congrats on the new mod - looks very nice.  Are those tail pipes bigger than the standard r32 pipes?

Your friend has done a fine job on the r32 rear bumper as well.  He could have a lot of gti owners knocking on his door soon  :smug:

They are indeed. The same size as milltek offer for the R32 system.. fills the valance void nicely
