ECU Error Code After Changing Oil & Filter
« on: 16 October 2008, 16:51 »
Hello all, ive just changed my engine oil and filter and also fixed the secondary air pump (the loose rivet problem causing incorrect flow detected error message).  When I first started the car, it made some weird noises as the oil pump starting pumping the new oil around the engine, this died away after a few seconds and everything went back to normal.  Took her for a nice long run to get everything upto temp, car is running sweat.  The engine sounds nice and quiet now, im using Lucas Fully Synthetic 5w-40 engine oil.  When I got back home I checked on Vag-Com to make sure there was no errors relating to the secondary air pump, which there wasnt.  However... There was a new message that had popped up, which I have never seen before:

16396 - Bank 1: Camshaft A (Intake): Advance Setpoint not Reached (Over-Retarded)
            P0012 - 35-10---Intermittent

Im hoping this was caused by the lack of oil pressure for those few seconds when the engine was first started, after having the new oil in?

Has anyone else seen this error?

Thanks

Mike

Yeah this can be caused by draining the oil. Check your oil level again, clear the code and go for a quick spin, then check to see if the error has returned.

I have measured the amount of oil I put in, never done this before lol.  I put exactly 4.5 litres of oil in there, which is the right amount according to my book.  I gonna check the oil first thing tomorrow morning, that way I will get a good reading.

I always do it the oldskool way, litre at a time and let it settle. Then once you get to 4 litres just a dribble at a time until it hits the max marker, then run the engine up for a minute or two then check the level again and top up as necessary. Never had any error codes doing it that way

You may have put 4.5L in, but how do you know all 4.5L came out? That's why I use measurements but also do it the old school way, putting bit by bit in whilst noting the dipstick.

Also a thing to note about oil changes with turbo cars is not not rev the engine up on first start after filling up with new oil, let the oil reach the turbo to avoid damage, switch off, check the level again, it may go down and need topping up some more.
