its up to you really! it'll fit just fine n dandy, a case of do you want more down low or more up top?
But then there might not really be that much difference, ive never had a drive in a 42mm inlet car compared to a 50mm, so i cant really say.

theres a nice long 50 vs 42 on clubgti, worth a read:

Where's the 42mm measurement actually taken from?

Hey peeps should hopefully be gettin engine out of the Rado over the next couple of days and try and clean her up a bit, things are a bit tight at the mo so wont be doing a total rebuild but was thinking of gettin a list drawn up of any bits and bobs, seals, gasgits etc. Basically stuff i can replace or upgrade before she goes into her new home. Any ideas folks? Many thanks..

the measurement is taken where the 2 halves of the inlet split apart :)

Bits you should buy:
Inlet manifold gasket
4x zaust manifold gaskets (they come seperate)
8x Copper zaust manifold nuts
Some zust manifold studs depending if any shear/come out with the nuts
Timing belt & tensioner (matched to whatever block you are using)
Solid rubber 16v/G60 rear mount (stronger)
Synta Silver oil & quality oil filter
Clutch kit
Gearbox input shaft seal, push rod bush & seal

Recommended bits:
Solid rubber 1.3/16v gearbox & front engine mounts
New alternator/pas etc belts
New metal coolant pipe
Thermostat & seal
Spark plugs, rotor arm & dizzy cap, air & fuel filters etc
Rubber cam cover gasket kit
Plastic coolant flanges that attach to the head
Redline MTL gearbox oil
Gearbox release bearing & end cap

RJ, you got part numbers for the different Inlet manifolds. Was looking at the pissrat this morning and the inlet manifold looks different to the one on the Rado.

The inlets may look a bit different but the size is the same:

50mm (KR) Golf - 027 129 717 F
42.5mm (KR, PL & 9A) Golf, Corrado & Passat - 027 129 717 D

My thinking RJ is that someone has put a 50mm inlet on the passat before I bought it. It looks like one as it bulges out after the pulgs whereas the one on the Rado doesn't.
