Yeah please do, I think you will be the first to post pics of the Pirelli! Saw my first one on the road the other day, 3dr in black, looked really nice!! Really old women driving it though  Also saw a Passat R36 today which are very rare, that looked

Well speaking as a fellow CTR owner here is my advice...

Keep the CTR (shock). Wait until you settle in London and have a job etc before deciding what to do.  I live and work in London, so my position is fairly similar.  My car only gets used at weekends and occasional evenings, so its a toy rather than a method of transport most of the time.  As a toy I would rather have the CTR than the ED30, don't get me wrong the Golf is much better all round car, but on a spirited drive I think the CTR would be more fun.  If you will be using the Golf to commute then it would be different.

The CTR may cost more to insure (although i'm sure you can get that quote down, try Chris Knot), but the depreciation on the Ed30 would be more than the CTR, so running costs would be very similar.

But wait until you have a full idea of the costs of living in london for a few months before you get tied into a new car purchase.  You would not want to get the Ed30 then realise that your costs of living were greater than expected.

Trust me i cant (chris knot was £2500!)

My living expenses will be halved and i am confident i will be able to afford to live and run the car (i only need to get a minimum of £15k to be able to afford my half and the car and have money left to save i have worked out)

The CTR is great for a spirited drive but i have had it a while and it just doesnt feel fast anymore, i also dont want to mod it too much (i.e. fast road set up) to get the best from the handling. Its becoming too expensive. The GTI has been shown to return very good mpg and also depreciation means little to me, with the current market and the fact there are less ED30 than others i dont expect it to drop much more (look at the mk4 anni, there alot more than the standard gti) The MK6 will undoubtedly drop the value but i plan to keep the car for a while (will try as long as possible to hold of the revo)

The money i will save in insurance makes it a better investment to go for the golf as will also free up the money in the civic. That way i have money if i need it and if worse comes to worse i sell the golf!

Im confident i have worked my finances out, it is just the time frame in which it will take a while to sell the car and mods and i will have to insure for at least a month or two which is £220 a month!! Which sucks!

The golf would cost me around £450 a month (finance and insurance est) so with rent at £460 that makes the equivalent of what i would be paying in rent if moved up on my own. So my outgoings will be around £1000 a month inc bills (£1100 tops with phone bill; my only other direct debit) So that works out as £13100 a year. I have £3k currently saved and will free up £11k, then a job on top should mean i will be comfortable and able to enjoy things and save.

I am optimistic about getting a good job as i have had other previous good jobs , so should be on at least £20k starting in what ever i go for and will work my balls off to get more!

I like the ctr, im just abit bored now! The ed30 is a step up for me and a positive step forward for me in my life as something to work hard to keep!
