Refurb Monza II's- what colour?
« on: 14 October 2008, 23:53 »
ok, I need to get my old Monza II refurb'd - not looking to spend loads and get them re-diamond cut as this will still only last so long so options are what colour...

Gloss Black
Matt Black
Grey (anthracite)
Silver

One option I though of was leave the inner dark grey bits alone and just get the alloys painted so looking similar to how they look now - not sure how difficult this is to do - keep the line when masking up...??

What are your thoughts.....you know you'll all have to do this eventually ;)

....

This is on my list of to-do's.

I've visited Pristine and been advised that it's both very expensive and tricky to do a good job of 'two-tone' Monzas (inner grey bits). They strip and refurb the whole wheel. I'll be going for powdercoated "Sterling half face" - A bright, but not too bright, gunmetal which is silver over black. Anthracite is much darker.

Cost about £420 all inclusive. 3-day turnaround.

Got any examples/pics of the outcome? Like the sound of the colour - obviously not ruling out getting them done properly at some point, this is just a 'quick fix' for the time being.

Getting them painted by a local paint shop as I know a guy there.

BMW stuff is quality.  No filliform corrosion there.

From experiance the smoke chrome isn't easy to do and not many offer it.

What about having them done MK6 style? Have them re-cut and have the insets done in black. Would go well with your car Neg. A1 wheels in Wolverhampton would be able to do this for you

Your right it would look good but - just not convinced in the price of diamond cutting again and then if they will corrode after a few months due to the salt we use on the roads in the UK!

Although high power silver + black might be a close second to it ...

If you're going to diamond cut them again - use clear powder coat instead of lacquer, it's much tougher.
