Heater controls

Do they supposed to light up? i dont have aircon or climate control,i dunno if these ment to light up but its abit annoying as at night i cant really see them,bought my car recently and it came light that so i dunno if they ment to light up or not,im taking about the heater controls which its 3 of them. its  a mk4 1998.

Yes thay are! you prob need new bulb.

 Its a 5 min job.
You  pull the centre knob off ,with a bit of force and there is a small bulb inside there you will need some long nose pliers to reach it.  :wink:

Thank you :) will halfords sell the the bulb or is it best to go to vw dealer?

You seem to have a few electrical problems mate theres a control unit behind the dash I wonder if this is faulty? Think mk4luke took his out because he thought the problems he had were caused by this but his turned out to be just a simple fix and was just a fuse.  :smiley:
Golf SOLD. Replaced with a Yamaha Raptor 660 quad and loving it. This will be replaced in August with a Raptor 700. Sold the quad now got a Vectra GSI 2.5 V6 and its the nuts.

Brands Hatch massive. MEMBERSHIP ACCEPTED!

Well i wouldnt say i have a few electrical issues,only 1 really,the heater control if its just a bulb is not really a fault just a bulb thats had its day lol but i appreciate your help.Thanx

It could be a bulb mate have you checked it yet? If it still doesnt work after you have fitted a new bulb then it could be that control unit thats affecting your windows aswell.

afaik you need to put the centre nob to number 2 first then pull it or it wont come off... halfords sell the bulb its number 286 you need and its around £1.70ish

ok thanx i just pulled the bulb out looks abit black so i think its gone,now when i put it back does it go back in in a certain way? the back of the bulb is flat,do i just put it in and twist it clockwise or put it in a certain way?like do i put it in in the shape of an I or -? hope that wasnt very sonfusing lol.

I've never had to change that bulb myself (touchwood), but if it's the type of bulb I'm thinking of, it just pushes back in.  Did you have to twist the old one out or did it just pull out straight?
