missed this thred TC, congrats on the new purchase

oh and id get laser aligned after a week of fitting as your tyers wont be much different after a week and it leaves for your coils to drop, i paid 80quid for mine to be done, only to find that i had to do it again 2 weeks later

Joe do you know why they need to be re-aligned again. And if this is true why have the 2 or 3 places i have spoke to not mentioned this as they have gone through the fitting process with me with out a mention of this surely it would be in there best interest to tell me this as they can make more money out of the deal.  :undecided:

nope  :undecided: just remember taking it to get laser aligned at a local garage, then went to awesome to have some bits done and he said it needed doing again,

i think its because it will need bedding in so will drop an extra 5-10mm  this is my understanding anyway  :undecided:

replace my failing KoniFSD's.
What has happened there?

Are the KW's a move from the variant 1's? Or is it a clubsport version?

....My FSD's are Koni's first version (since revised and being revised yet again). I've done about 50k miles on them and they should still be good but two very experienced track drivers (suspension savvy), plus our very own Phil's convoy obs, plus myself (before anyone else's comments) have each totally independently noticed the problem - On straight M-way sections they'll behave as if underdampened with hard rebound which results in a soft feel. My VW dealer has inspected them with me present and we find no evidence of leakage. Koni will take them back to Holland for bench testing and honour their warranty or not, according to their findings.

So, it makes sense to take advantage of the opportunity and my relationship with VWR to employ their skills and their special relationship with KW to sort out a fast road setup for my needs. I may yet be tempted onto track so Clubsport may be ideal but I'll be taking VWR's advice which is based on our chats. They've now driven my car about 200 miles so also have some familiarity.

When the job is done I'll start a new post on the subject.

Great Purchase TC!

Your car will look great once its done. Suspension is almost the number one mod before remap.

....But are you guys revising the suspension for looks alone? (ETTO of course)

Here comes an arguement

To be fair the standard suspension does a very good job as it is. I feel most people agree with that.

I think that most people upgrade purely for looks and not for performance. You (RedRobin) for example want to track the car every now and then so a proper upgrade is essential. In TC's case I think it is purely for looks. Much like I would only drop a car for looks as I know it will probably never see the track.

The question we should be asking is:

What suspension system offers the best balance between driveability and cosmetic attraction...

Mine was also mainly for looks, but without spoiling what little ride comfort there is! As a bonus the car corners flatter but as I don't like to drive my car too hard this wasn't in the initial thought process.

Mine definitely wasn't done for "stance"

It has only been lowered about 20mm from standard due to obstacles beyond my control in my area.

The main reason was to enhance the control of the car due to the extra power, plus I'd heard that Eibach's damped better than the standard suspension - which they do

Wanting those pics of TC in his slammed motor now please

Mike

....I'm not seeking an argument but it does make a good debate or discussion

As you say, Mike, the stock suspension (and chassis) is very good indeed but as with nearly all factory cars, improvements can be made, both functionally and cosmetically.

There has always been a compromise and uneasy balance between suspension which improves handling but remains comfortable on the road. In 2005 the introduction of Koni FSD's were considered a big step in effecting a good compromise, especially if combined with Anti-roll bars. On track, comfort is of far less importance and also cars tend to be lowered much more. That 'track look' of being lowered with camber is a very cool look and naturally one which car enthusiasts seek to emulate - There's nothing wrong with that but only as long as 'the look' doesn't ruin the handling, and it can. Individual comfort preferences are up to the individual.

Suspension designers are continually striving to create products which strike a good and comfortable compromise for fast road use, and even car manufacturers are including user-switchable suspension options, though I can't say I'm over impressed by VW's efforts - Still very 'softcore' imo.

Ultimately it is up to the individual.

[I hope you'll say if you think we're hijacking your thread, TC]

....

Also, as Hurdy says, increased performance begs for improved suspension. The slippery slope!
